Abstract
The author used focus group interviews with more than 100 students to construct the Preferred College Classroom Environment Scale (PCCES), which assesses the degree to which five dimensions of a conventional college classroom environment help students learn. The study revealed the relative similarity of preferences of first-year males and females while emphasizing three meaningful differences.
