Before You Cancel Your Contract
Remember that freshmen are required to live on campus for a full academic year.
Review the terms and conditions of your university housing contract and the dates for your student status and semester. A copy of this contract can be obtained by contacting the main University Housing offices.
Know that we will not give any refunds in the last six weeks of a semester.
Cancellation Notice
First-year students/freshmen will not be allowed to buy-out/cancel their contracts.
Continuing Students Cancellation Dates

After May 1, the housing contract is legally binding and you are required to pay the entire academic year's rent unless you fail to enroll at the university.
If You Fail to Enroll
If you fail to enroll, you must pay a cancellation fee of $200. If you withdraw from
school or receive a contract release for any extreme circumstance, you are required
to pay a cancellation fee of $200 + prorated rent.
If you change your mind and re-enroll, we will add the $200 charge back to your account.
You can cancel your contract for the following reasons only:
- Withdrawal from school
- Marriage (no more than four weeks before the wedding date)
- Extenuating circumstances (documentation will be required and cancellation the university's discretion)
If you qualify for one of the above reasons, you will be charged prorated rent for the days remaining on your contract, AND a $200 cancellation fee.
You can cancel without penalty for the following reasons only:
- Graduation
- Withdrawal from school
- Ineligibility to continue enrollment due to a failure to meet academic requirements
- Failure to enroll for the next semester
- Co-opting spring semester
- Participation in a required university program that takes you away from campus (documentation required)
You can cancel with a $200 cancellation fee for the following reasons only:

You can cancel for the following reasons:

Once you submit your summer application you are responsible for full summer rent of $2,622.
Cancellations, prior to move in date, can be submitted by sending an email to housing@sc.edu or by calling University Housing at 803-777-4283.
During the summer session, we do not require an advance room payment from current residents. Be advised that any damages incurred, either in the building or in your individual room, while residing in the residence hall will be charged to your account.
Students who withdraw from the university after your official check-in date will be assessed full rent.
All students must abide by the procedures and expectations in the Student Code of Conduct and Housing Policies as outlined in the University Policy and Procedure Manual.

Refunds and Contract Transfers
Refunds: There will be no refund of University Housing monies during the last six weeks of a semester.
Transfer of Contracts: Residence hall contracts are not transferrable to the Greek Village or 650 Lincoln (A University Partnership).
Removal From Campus: If you are removed from campus by Student Conduct, you will not be eligible for a refund.
Students Activated for Military Service: If you're activated for full-time service during the semester, the university follows state law Section 59-101-395. If a student has an overdue balance, the refund will be applied to the balance due.
Collections
If you're charged any collection fees for unpaid housing charges, you will responsible for those collection fees in addition to your unpaid housing charges.
