Campus Conversation: Angela Fang

Angela Fang on the horseshoe.

“In a class for the Opportunity Scholars Program, I got to travel and study abroad in Paris over the summer. It gave me a chance to connect with my peers who are also first-generation college students, and I started wondering how I could use my talent abroad in a future career.

“This summer I also had the opportunity to intern with the South Carolina State Treasurer’s Office and witnessed the behind-the-scenes work our state government does to help people. I was involved in significant projects, such as locating the rightful owners of unclaimed tax refunds, which could range from $2-200,000. When people were informed about their unclaimed funds, they were thrilled and grateful to discover the positive impact our work would have on their lives and businesses.

“The most defining moment pursuing global studies was being able to explore different perspectives and expand my worldview right here on campus. I'm always exposed to new ideas or meet classmates who are from different parts of the world that I’ve never been to.

“My family runs a small business in our family restaurant and always wondered what it would be like if I had my own business one day. I added economics (as a major) because I wanted to have a business edge, and there are careers in business in all regions of the world."
