"The summer after my sophomore year of high school, I attended Carolina Journalism Institute at USC. I remember feeling so excited by how knowledgable the faculty was and the real-world experience I got when I was 16. When I got to college, I knew I was in the right place. Unfortunately, I only had a semester and a half in person before being sent home for COVID. However, even in my online classes my professors were so engaging and I got great experience for my portfolio. By far my favorite class in the J-School has been "Publication Writing and Design." It was so cool to work on both my writing and design skills in a class that truly felt like a production team.
My time at Carolina wouldn't be the same without the Public Relations Student Society of America. I joined my first semester and have been on the executive board for the past two years. I've had great networking opportunities, learned from public relations professionals in just about every field you can think of, and had so much fun.
It's hard to quantify how much I've learned during my time here. The foundational knowledge I’ve gained has led me so many places — from recruiting social media influencers to writing social copy on Capitol Hill."
— Grace Farrar, senior public relations major
