It’s an exciting time on the University of South Carolina campus as a record-breaking first-year class settles in. Here are some details about our incoming students, activities they take part in, how they’ll impact campus life and the resources it takes to support them.
Incoming students
6,596 — estimated number of students in the university's freshman class
35,500 — estimated student population on the Columbia campus
81 — expected number of high-school valedictorians in the freshman class
60 — estimated percentage of females in this year’s freshman class
33 — estimated number of sets of twins entering the University of South Carolina this fall as freshmen

Moving in
9,242 — projected number of students who will live this year in University Housing (including Park Place and some placements in the Greek Village, YOUnion and 650 Lincoln)
2,689 — number of undergraduates participating in seven learning communities and four residential learning programs within residence halls
709 — number of faculty, staff and current students serving as a part of the volunteer Move-in Crew to welcome and move in new students
19.55 — tons of cardboard recycled during move-in 2021
157,800 — packages delivered to resident students during the 2021-22 academic year, with 11,850 delivered during last year's move-in period
Feeding the crowds
746,488 — original Chick-fil-A sandwiches sold by Carolina Food Co. along with 500,986 spicy Chick-fil-A sandwiches in the 2021-22 academic year
Over 600 — associates and 13 campus chefs with Carolina Food Co. serving the university community at six residential restaurants and 20 retail locations across campus
80 — tons of compost collected by Carolina Food Co. in the 2021-22 academic year
Keeping students healthy
17,266 — number of patients/clients who had health or wellness visits with Student Health Services in 2021-22

Students serving
114,304 — volunteer service hours completed by fraternity and sorority members in the community during the 2021-22 academic year
$1,157,653 — dollars raised by fraternity and sorority members for chapter-based philanthropy efforts during the 2021-22 academic year
