Campus Conversation: Asia Fulton

"For me, studying abroad was always a part of my academic plan. Specifically studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country was a part of this plan. I always thought that I wanted to have a study abroad experience in Spain until I learned about the UofSC Global Health Program in Costa Rica. This is how I decided on Costa Rica.

Being selected to be a Gilman Scholar gave me the opportunity to enjoy my study abroad experience without any financial burdens. It also had a positive impact on my future career since I learned more Spanish and Medical Spanish during my experience. Without this scholarship I can truthfully say I would not have had the amazing experience in Costa Rica like I did.

My big takeaway to anyone who wants to study abroad and may be a little hesitant is to JUST DO IT! Studying abroad made me develop more personally and academically. There’s so much of the world to see so why not go explore it, learn about another culture and take a course while receiving an experience like no other."
