Campus Conversation: Caley Bright

“As president of the student chapter of the NAACP, my responsibilities are planning meetings, being the spokesperson, making sure our members feel like they have a voice, assisting in developing more Black students leaders on campus, and connecting members to more opportunities on campus.

Our organization has goals of renaming buildings on our campus. The goal for the “Aim To Rename” march was to let the Legislature and Board of Trustees know that this issue means a lot to students and we are not done fighting. If you are an aspiring activist, I would suggest you get involved with NAACP; we not only focus on Black issues, but all issues that affect the student body.

I also currently intern for the Democratic Caucus at the State House. I am responsible for helping representatives get information on new bills. I help write press releases and gain so much experience from watching them in committee meetings and being on the floor. So far, my time at the State House has opened my eyes to state politics. I feel politically aware and I hope that I can bring all that I learn into my leadership with the NAACP."
