UofSC ranks among state’s best employers in new Forbes list

The University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus is ranked the 12th best employer in South Carolina, according to a new national survey released by Forbes.

The list is divided into 51 rankings — one for each of the 50 states, plus the District of Columbia — and was compiled by surveying 80,000 Americans working for businesses with at least 500 employees. Surveys were conducted on a rolling basis from October 2020 to June 2021.

The University of South Carolina works hard to create an environment where employees can thrive personally and professionally.

Caroline Agardy, UofSC Vice President for Human Resources

South Carolina is the top-ranked university in the state to make the Forbes list, followed by Clemson University (25) and Coastal Carolina University (30). UofSC’s Columbia campus is home to more than 2,500 full and part-time faculty members and more than 7,400 full and part-time staff.

The Forbes ranking comes on the heels of another ranking from the Post and Courier/Free-Times that named UofSC as the best place to work in Columbia.

“The University of South Carolina works hard to create an environment where employees can thrive personally and professionally,” said Vice President for Human Resources Caroline Agardy. “There’s always been a strong sense of comradery and dedication to our educational mission. Last year’s experience with COVID-19 presented unique challenges for all workplaces, but we’re proud that we could provide employees with the support services and scheduling flexibility they needed.”
