Make the University of South Carolina your destination this summer for fun and challenging camps for students of all ages and interests. University of South Carolina faculty, staff, experts and students lead summer activities that spark interest and bolster young minds in everything from computer science and engineering to music, dance and theater.

Carolina Master Scholars Adventure Series

June 13 to July 23

Are you ready for an adventure? Join academically talented middle and high school students, like you, from across the country for some serious summer fun. Meet new friends and continue your quest for knowledge as you take part in this nationally recognized, award-winning academic adventure. Learn from top University of South Carolina faculty, staff, research professors and experts in the Midlands community about subjects such as pharmacy, forensic science, graphic design, culinary arts, filmmaking, the stock market and engineering (full course listing). Virtual and on-campus options for residential, commuter and commuter-plus. We will also have virtual course options.

ACT and SAT Test Prep

ACT Summer Institute:

June 1-10 (eight sessions), June 7-10 (four sessions), June 15 to Aug. 17 (10 sessions)

SAT sessions:

June 8 to Aug. 12 (20 sessions), June 14-24, June 16 to Aug. 4, July 12-22, Aug. 2-12 (8 sessions)

 

High school juniors and seniors enhance their test-taking skills in a college atmosphere and receive 20 to 40 hour of expert instruction, an abundance of online support resources, a comprehensive study plan, strategies and tips, and course materials.

Carolina Opera Experience

2021 camp canceled

Through daily workshops, campers get an exciting, hands-on experience in the art of opera while working with professional-level opera singers, directors and designers as they explore the basics of creating characters with and through music; participate in voice, music reading and rhythm exercises; and learn about set lighting and costume design. The week ends with a public performance to show off their learned skills in opera production. More information: lsmith@mozart.sc.edu.

Carolina Summer Music Conservatory

June 20-26

High school students study repertoire with UofSC music faculty in small chamber ensembles and together in a chamber orchestra culminating in a performance on the last day. Participants focus on individual performance and chamber music, developing musicianship skills. In addition to master classes, chamber music coaching and private lessons, students are offered a variety of activities, including courses in music history, music theory, how to prepare for an audition and jazz improvisation.

String Project Summer Camp

July 26-30

Experience our enthusiasm for and dedication to the development of young string players. Students in grades three through high school hone their skills and learn from experienced teachers and graduate students. The camp fosters the excitement of developing skills on an orchestral string instrument and is open to students who have completed one year of instruction.

Summer Chorus

Rehearsals: July 6-19

Performances: July 30 and Aug. 1

 

This program gives community singers and students the opportunity to participate in the Summer Chorus at UofSC. This year’s repertoire will be Requiem in D Minor, K. 626 (Mozart). More information: lsmith@mozart.sc.edu.

Summer Drama Conservatory

June 14-25

Aspiring theater artists in grades one through 12 hone their acting skills with a challenging and fun training and performance experience. Youth learn from UofSC’s conservatory director and theater professor Peter Duffy along with a company of graduate theatre students.

Summer Dance Conservatory

Ballet and Contemporary Intensives: July 3-23

Jazz Intensive: July 25-30

 

Students study a variety of dance styles with world-renowned instructors through the S.C. Summer Dance Conservatory and showcase their work in a fully produced dance concert of classical and contemporary repertory. An audition is required to be considered.

Broadway at USC

July 24-31

Build your vocal, character and movement skills in ways that make your performances stand out. This day camp integrates acting, singing and dance training for ages 12-20 to help students’ take their performance skills to new heights. The camp culminates in a final performance for family and friends.

Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Sciences

June 27 to July 2

This summer the Partners for Minorities in Engineering and Computer Sciences offers virtual summer workshops to introduce minority high school students to the fields of engineering and computer science. The program has brought educators and businesses together to host these summer workshops for more than 40 years.

South Carolina Youth Collective

June 21-25

SCYC Fellows are social justice and civics minded high school students from across South Carolina. Students will participate in community building exercises, learn civil rights history through activities and virtual field trips, plan to lead a workshop on race and reconciliation, and learn how to plan and implement a project in their home community. There are no fees for camp participation.

Athletics

Opportunities for UofSC athletic camps will be determined by COVID-19 protocols from the NCAA. Softball and women’s soccer are accepting tentative reservations.
