Campus Conversation: Laura-Louise Rice

“Although the past year has brought about varying challenges, I am blessed to be involved in areas on campus and off campus that contribute to my pursuits to achieve health justice for Black women in the state of South Carolina. As a member of Student Government, Mock Trial, and Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity, along with my internship at McGuireWoods Consulting Firm, I have been able to give back and gain experience in areas that will best prepare me for a career in public service and nonprofit work. Following graduation, I plan to obtain a dual JD/MPH centered on social justice and health policy and practice. My ultimate goal is to start a health justice nonprofit organization in South Carolina that advocates for health justice for rural communities and communities of color both inside and outside of the courtroom. As my time at UofSC comes to close, I want to be confident in my future, but more importantly, be able to say I made an impact that will challenge my peers to pursue justice and equity in their respective fields."
