Gamecock Guides are newly hired student employees that will soon become familiar faces on UofSC social media channels. The guides are working to create content that will amplify university messages, build virtual relationships that engage fellow students and serve as representatives of UofSC.
The Gamecock Guides will also have responsibilities to check in with students in quarantine and isolation, particularly focusing on mental health, academic success and virtual engagement.
Below is a Q&A to help you get to know some of the Gamecock Guides. Be sure to follow @UofSC on social media to learn more about the guides and virtually meet the rest of them throughout the year.

What is your favorite type of content creation?
My favorite type of content creation is video.
What topics are you most excited to cover?
I’m most intrigued by UofSC football, as well as reaching out to other veteran students who may have a difficult time adjusting to college life after having been in the military, or the ones still serving or serving as a guards-member like myself.
What are you looking forward to most as a Gamecock Guide?
I’m mostly looking forward to the opportunity to have an impact on my fellow students, and be able to help give insight into things that I wish I knew when I moved here. I am hoping to be able to do my best to truly guide the students into the best experience they can have. There is so much opportunity and adventure here that so few people know about.

What is your favorite type of content creation?
I particularly like photography and video, even the occasional meme or two.
What topics are you most excited to cover?
Soccer games, places to eat/grocery shop, student organizations, things to do in Columbia and what life is really like as a college student. These are all of my favorite things and things I wish I would have known before coming to UofSC.
What are you looking forward to most as a Gamecock Guide?
Getting the chance to publicly share why I love UofSC so much and being able to capture memories and have them forever.

What is your favorite type of content creation?
Video! It allows students and others to share a piece of their lives. We can show our personality, verbally express the things we are passionate about and tell stories that come to life on camera. I've been involved in a video fundraiser and I am getting ready to assist with an autobiographical blog, as well. I love that Gamecock Guides are encouraged to record parts of their lives. This allows us to facilitate the sharing of the UofSC experience to a wide audience.
What topics are you most excited to cover?
This year is an election year, and I'm a member of CLEAT, the Civic Leadership Education and Action Team, under the umbrella of the Leadership and Service Center. I'm very passionate about encouraging civic advocacy, and I believe this is a vital time for students to get involved. We are watching social justice occur across the nation. Protests and riots have broken out in many pockets, there is a global pandemic occurring and people are frustrated and disillusioned. Now is not the time to be passive, but to engage, speak, vote and act. I've already covered National Voter Registration Day and I look forward to encouraging students to share their voices on campus.
What are you looking forward to most as a Gamecock Guide?
As a Gamecock Guide, I'm most excited about giving people a look at my life as a student. Research has shown that prospective students trust the experience of other students. Therefore, it's vitally important that high school, nontraditional and transfer students get a glimpse of authentic living at UofSC before they call this beautiful campus home. I think this is a brilliant initiative that will yield high results on and off campus.

What is your favorite type of content creation?
My favorite type of content creation is making videos for the students to watch whether that’s academic videos or just regular videos of random things around campus.
What topics are you most excited to cover?
I am most excited to cover videos of athletic events inside Williams-Brice Stadium, Founders Park and more.
What are you looking forward to most as a Gamecock Guide?
This semester, I am most looking forward to being able to help students any way that I can whether they are current or prospective students to get excited about the University of South Carolina.
