The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees’ ad hoc Advisory Committee on Governance met on Friday, June 12, to discuss proposed changes to the board’s committee structure. While the board is made up currently of seven committees and two subcommittees, the new proposed structure that was passed for full board consideration is made up of seven new or slightly modified committees:
- Academic Excellence and Student Experience. Matters related to distance learning, faculty, honorary degrees, athletics and student-athletes, intramurals, research, student affairs, student government, student health and safety, and student success;
- Advancement, Engagement, and Communications. Matters related to alumni relations, communications strategy, community engagement, economic development, fundraising, government relations and public relations;
- Audit, Compliance, and Risk. Matters related to compensation, ethics, human resources and institutional reputation;
- Finance and Infrastructure. Matters related to auxiliaries, budget, buildings, the Design Review Committee, grounds and information technology;
- Governance. Matters related to board policy, diversity, fiduciary duties and strategic planning;
- Health and Medical Affairs, which would handle business related to health and medicine, related academic programs, and related professional programs, which are not delegated by Bylaws to other Board committees;
- University System. Matters related to online programs, Palmetto College, shared services/efficiencies, system governance and coordination, and transfer programs.
