UofSC continues climb in graduate rankings
University offers more nationally ranked programs than all other S.C. institutions combined

The University of South Carolina continues to shine with 54 unique nationally ranked graduate programs — nine in the top 25 — in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools list released Tuesday (March 17).
The university has more ranked graduate and professional programs than all other South Carolina colleges combined. These programs represent diverse areas of study in the sciences, technology, engineering, math, the arts, health sciences, law and business and train graduate students destined to become future leaders in their fields. The programs also provide the skilled workforce needed to propel the state’s knowledge economy forward.
The Darla Moore School of Business’s International MBA program was ranked No. 1 for the seventh straight year and has been in the top three for 31 consecutive years.
“Ranking as the No. 1 International MBA in the nation is a credit to our outstanding faculty and the educational excellence of our program,” Moore School dean Peter Brews says. “The Moore School is committed to delivering exceptional business programming that not only prepares graduates for future career success but teaches them the value of teamwork, integrity and resilience and hard skills like data analytics and understanding international marketplaces so that they can better lead and make a difference in corporations around the world.”
The university also had 15 nationally ranked health science graduate programs, in addition to January's online graduate program rankings that put UofSC's nursing programs at No. 1 for public universities and No. 2 overall. The most recent U.S. News rankings also include two Top-10 information science programs.
“The University of South Carolina Columbia provides an outstanding learning experience to 6,000 graduate students across almost 250 degree programs,” says vice provost and dean of the Graduate School Cheryl Addy. “We are especially proud of the commitment and innovation that have resulted in national and international recognition for many of these programs but more importantly that have helped our students achieve success in their chosen endeavors.”
The School of Law was highly ranked in two areas of specialty, while also being included in new specialty rankings for criminal, corporate, contracts-commercial and constitutional law.
“We’re delighted to be recognized for our expertise in trial advocacy and clinical training, two areas that provide the necessary hands-on experience today’s law firms expect of new graduates,” says law school dean Robert Wilcox. “This is further proof of the rigorous academic preparation our students receive in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the law.”
