This fall at a glance

It’s that time of year again — when students, old and new, make their way to campus, ready for another unforgettable semester at Carolina. Here are just some of the many exciting things going on this fall at UofSC.

The class of 2023’s first night at Carolina will be 7:30-10 p.m., Aug. 21. It will start with Cocky’s Call, where first-year students meet on the Horseshoe to take part in their first “Gamecock” chant. Following Cocky’s Call, students will head to Greene Street for a street fair that will include food trucks, novelties, a DJ, fireworks and more.
Football season is almost here. Get excited to "sandstorm" for our first home football game of the season as the Gamecocks take on the Charleston Southern Buccaneers at noon, Sept. 7.
Take advantage of the opportunity to give back to the Columbia community at this fall's Service Saturdays. Service Saturdays are monthly service days where volunteers can choose from a range of service sites. This semester’s Service Saturdays will take place Aug. 24, Sept. 21, Oct. 26 and Nov. 16. Transportation and lunch will be provided.
Starting Aug. 27, Healthy Carolina’s weekly farmers market will be held on Greene Street 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Tuesdays. Shop for fresh, locally grown produce and sustainable products on your way to class. There will also be live music, health education, cooking demos, free samples and more.
Carolina's ultimate family fundays will be here before you can say "Go Gamecocks!" Show your family what UofSC is all about at this year’s Family Weekend, to be held Sept. 27-29. Enjoy a slew of fun family activities with a Family Weekend package. Check out the Family Weekend website for help navigating the weekend.
Homecoming Week is a campuswide celebration complete with nightly events, service projects and more. This year's festivities will take place Oct. 28-Nov. 2. Getting to see some of your favorite artists at the homecoming concert is just one of the many highlights of the week.
Looking to enhance your cooking skills? Sign up for Student Health Services' free cooking classes this fall. No matter what level of cooking experience you have, you can learn how to prepare delicious and healthy dishes.
If you’re missing your furbaby at home or just need some puppy love, Indy, the Student Health Services’ therapy dog, has got you covered. Check out the Student Health Services website for information about Indy’s wellness walks and office hours.
Few university events match the longstanding tradition of the Tiger Burn, the annual pep rally held before the Carolina–Clemson football game. This year’s Tiger Burn will be held Nov. 25. The pep rally features a tongue-in-cheek eulogy and a tiger designed and built by a group of students from the UofSC student chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Cheer on the Gamecocks at the most competitive game of the year, The Palmetto Bowl, on Nov. 30 at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Carolina-Clemson game has been played since 1896 and uninterrupted since 1909. The historic rivalry makes for great football and a lot of fun.
As the semester comes to a close we’ll say goodbye to another class of Gamecocks. They’ll walk across the stage and celebrate what they’ve worked so hard for. We hate to see them go, but can’t wait to see what the future holds.
