College of Nursing Begins Holistic Upper Division Admission

The College of Nursing admits first upper division cohort with new holistic admission- a strategy that assesses an applicant’s unique experiences and potential.

Why it matters: Educational institutions must produce health professionals that mirror our nation’s population and can meet the health care needs of all individuals and communities to enhance positive patient outcomes. The lack of diversity among health care professionals may contribute to disparities in access to health care and services for underrepresented populations.

Enhancing diversity: The ultimate goal of holistic admissions is to assemble a diverse cohort of students the college can help equip to best meet the needs of the patients, families, and communities they will care for as Carolina Gamecock nurse leaders.

How: Rather than GPA only, this process is designed to consider a broad range of factors reflecting the applicant’s academic background, qualities, skills, and readiness. In addition, the process helps to identify the applicant’s contribution to the incoming cohort,  success in the program, and success as a nursing professional.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
