The College of Nursing presented the 2017 Alumni Awards at the second annual Alumni Oyster Roast on Friday, Oct. 27. Christopher Blake Frazier, RN, BSN, received the Outstanding Young Nurse Alumnus award; Dr. Martha S. Tingen, PhD, RN, FAAN, received the Outstanding Nurse Alumna award.
Frazier is a staff RN/ECMO Specialist in the Adult/Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery/Transplant ICU at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He received his BSN from the UofSC College of Nursing in 2012.
As a student, Blake was the President of the South Carolina Student Nurses Association, the 2012 Graduating Class Outstanding BSN Student and recipient of the Palmetto Gold Scholarship. His leadership and achievements since graduation include the Dr. C Allen Good Nursing Education Award (2014), from the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing and the RN Individual Achievement Award (2016), from the Mayo Clinic Department of Nursing for his significant contributions to the Nursing profession.
Dr. Tingen is the Charles W. Linder Endowed Chair in Pediatrics and a Professor in the Departments of Pediatrics, Physiological and Technological Nursing, and Graduate Studies at Georgia Health Sciences University. She is also Director of Augusta University's Tobacco Control Initiative and Co-Director of the Child Health Discovery Institute. She has received two degrees and one certificate from the UofSC College of Nursing: her BSN in 1979, a certificate of graduate study in 1994, and her PhD in 1995.
Dr. Tingen has received the Distinguished Researcher Award from the Georgia Health Sciences Research Institute, the Outstanding Clinical Science Research Award from the Medical College of Georgia (MCG) School of Medicine, the Outstanding Research Award from the Beta Omicron Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Phoebe Kandel Rohrer Founder's Award for Exemplary Research and Education from the MCG School of Nursing.
