Over 120 nurses attended the 2016 Annual Leadership Summit and Deans And Directors Education Workshop that was held at Seawells in Columbia, SC. The One Voice, One Plan Future of Nursing Action Coalition and the Deans and Directors hosted the Summit. The Center for Nursing Leadership and the South Carolina Hospital Association sponsored the event.
Dr. Jeanette Andrews, Dean of the College of Nursing at the University of South Carolina, welcomed the attendees and introduced the 2015-2016 graduating fellows of the Amy V. Cockcroft Leadership Program. The fellows each presented their projects: “A Snapshot of Forward Progress on the IOM Report, Future of Nursing”. It was followed by their graduation and the introduction of the 20 new fellows for the 2016-2017 Cohort. Ruth Mustard, Associate Director for Nursing and Patient Care Services of the William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia, SC. received the Amy V. Cockcroft Leadership Excellence award. The award is given each year to an alumni fellow that has demonstrated outstanding leadership since graduating from the program.
Dr. Janet Krejci, Vice President, Academic Affairs and Provost of Illinois State University in Normal, IL gave the keynote address. She spoke on “Leveraging Leadership for Impact”. Dr. Jerry Mansfield, Chief Nursing Officer for Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, OH, gave the closing address. He spoke about “Leading Innovative Change for Complex Healthcare”. The day ended with an update on the South Carolina Action Coalition teams and a briefing of future RWJ initiatives.
