Although every room in SAEL can be used for skills training, there is a designated section in the center where students will learn and practice skills. All juniors in the BSN program will undergo several weeks of skills training during their first semester of upper division before taking care of real patients in the clinical environment.
In the past, it was standard practice for nursing students to practice giving injections by sticking needles into oranges? Some institutions even allowed students to practice this skill on one another! Now students will practice administering shots on a patient simulator or into an injection pad.
