Each fall, we roll out the garnet carpet for our new and returning students and their
families. The bustling week of activities, which begins on Move-in Day, includes a
number of fun, on-campus events such as First Night Carolina, Convocation, the start
of classes and more.
During UofSC Welcome 2018 more than 8,600 students moved into on-campus residences
beginning on Monday, Aug. 20. Once the unpacking stopped and families headed home, students
explored campus and met classmates during the days before and after classes began on
Thurs., Aug. 23.
In 2018, Carolina Welcome included 28 unique events such as the new tradition Cocky's Call on the Horseshoe, First Night Carolina and Convocation. The fun continued for nearly two weeks as students settled in with outdoor movies, an
illusionist performance, a concert, Bustle at the Russell, the Opportunity Knocks
Job Fair, Service Saturday, a comedy show, the two-day Student Organization Fair,
a Night at the Fireflies and so much more.
Welcome (or Welcome Back) to All
The days before and after classes begin are a busy but fun time for both new and returning
students. Learn how to make your move to campus as stress-free as possible.

Move-in is a busy blur of packing, loading, unloading and unpacking. We work hard
to make your move as stress-free as possible with plenty of helping hands, careful
orchestration and plenty of refreshing water to help you beat the S.C. heat.

Many local hotels offer special rates for visitors to campus so mention us when you make your hotel reservations. If you're
planning to stay in town a few days, see our calendar for events and Explore Columbia for can't-miss local experiences.
