Advising 101

How do I make an appointment?

  • Be on the lookout for email in October regarding advising from both your major and the Honors College.
  • Follow your major instructions for setting up a time to meet with your advisor.
  • Set up an appointment online to meet with your Honors College advisor.
  • If you don’t know your Honors College advisor, you can find them on the website.
  • When making an appointment, make sure you add up your total credit hours at the end of the current semester. This will determine when you when you are eligible to make an appointment. Those with 90+ hours can be advised first, followed by 75+, and down.

How do I decide what classes to take?

  • Check your major requirements to see what you should take next semester.
  • Familiarize yourself with the Honors College requirements, and see if any of your major courses offer an Honors section that will satisfy a requirement.
  • Take a look at the Honors College courses, which are organized by the requirement they fulfill on the website.
  • Check the Master Schedule to make sure that none of your classes will conflict with one another.
  • Some classes fill up quickly, so it may be a good idea to have a few options in case one class fills up before you register.

How do I actually register for classes?

  • During your Honors advising appointment, your advisor will register you for HONORS COURSES ONLY.
  • Your registration time will appear on my.sc.edu, which is when you are allowed to register for your non-honors courses.
  • You may only register for non-honors courses after you have been advised by your major advisor.

Challenge the conventional. Create the exceptional. No Limits.
