In 2019, I served as the president of the UofSC Interfraternity Council, an organization of 20 fraternities, over 2,500 people, and a budget of about $200,000. This leadership experience was incredibly transformational. I was consistently forced to adapt to be the best representation of myself and my council. I developed more patience, self-awareness and willingness to understand before being understood. I changed my leadership style to balance strategic thinking with methodical management of daily tasks. Finally, I improved my pragmatic communication skills through meetings with important individuals, from the university president to the chief of police. This experience and my time at UofSC has undoubtedly enhanced my ability to work with a diverse group of providers, patients and families in my future career.
Future plans: Zach will attend medical school to pursue an MD/MPH or MD/MBA degree, entering Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
