The University of South Carolina system had nearly 41,000 students on its eight campuses in fall 2007, representing 50 states and 100 nations.
More than 27,000 students were enrolled at the flagship Columbia campus, 74 percent of whom were from South Carolina and nearly 18 percent of whom were minorities.
