One current Carolina student recently noted, "At USC, your niche finds you." Whether your niche is helping others during a Service Saturday, playing intramural sports at the new fields next to the Strom Thurmond Fitness and Wellness Center, participating in theatrical events, or spending a day on the Historic Horseshoe, there is always something to do at the University of South Carolina.
Of course, the Carolina experience centers around learning. Students learn from our field of world-class professors, researchers who value the teaching experience and reach out to help their students. Students learn valuable skills outside of the classroom, whether it's studying coral reefs in Australia through our study abroad office, participating in lab work at our own Baruch Institute, or through an internship made accessible through our outstanding Career Center.
A major component of the Carolina experience is our location in the center of Columbia, one of the South's most dynamic cities. Columbia is the largest city in the State of South Carolina, and Carolina students enjoy the professional and social advantages it provides. Columbia's historic downtown is filled with restaurants, unique shops, state government offices, and the commercialism you would find in a large city. Yet, Columbia is known for its southern hospitality and its ability to reach out to the University community. Many of our students have jobs and internships within blocks of our campus. And, students certainly enjoy Columbia's geographic location. The mountains and beach are just a few hours away, so a quick day trip is always a welcome break from busy college life.
You will learn that the University of South Carolina is a unique place. It's a place filled with energetic, resourceful students who look for and appreciate new challenges. Come see it for yourself. Contact the Visitor Center to set up a campus tour. We look forward to showing you the Carolina experience in person.
