The College of Pharmacy recently hosted its annual Graduate Research Symposium, featuring presentations from graduate students, highlighting their innovative research projects and findings.
Along with the presentations, several professors took part in an engaging panel discussion about their current work, including Michael Wyatt, chair of the department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences, Tessa Hastings, assistant professor in Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences, Juan Francisco Leon and Alessandra Porcu, assistant professors in Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences. Each shared insights on their current research covering vaccine hesitancy, pediatric oncology, natural products chemistry, and circadian rhythms.

Graduate students were also recognized for their outstanding achievements and awards in various research categories. Abby Davies & Zachary Stryker were named recipients of the Ritedose Corporation Graduate Student Scholarship; Xiangxiang Jiang received the Public Health Education and Health Promotion Student Award from the American Public Health Association, the USC Graduate School Travel Grant, and the College of Pharmacy’s Charles Yandell Award; Eugene Lee received the College of Pharmacy’s James Plaxco Jr. Award; George Merhej received the College of Pharmacy’s Daniel Li Chang-Wang Scholarship, and Kim-Tuyen Huynh Dam received the Dean’s Award for the Outstanding Graduate Student of the Year.
Members of the community and alumni also attended, fostering valuable networking opportunities and strengthening connections between current students and pharmacy professionals.
The Ritedose Corporation generously sponsored this year's showcase, demonstrating their commitment to advancing pharmaceutical education and research.
Dean Stephen J. Cutler, in congratulating the graduates on their successes and thanking Ritdeose for their support, noted “This symposium underscores the college's dedication to fostering excellence in pharmaceutical research and education while building meaningful partnerships with industry leaders.”
