Earning concurrent Pharm.D./Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees is ideal for a pharmacist who seeks to add practical business instruction to professional patient care studies. The combination of these programs is highly desirable for students who plan to pursue a career in hospital or health systems, the pharmaceutical industry, pharmacy benefit management organizations, or academia.
The University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy’s Pharm.D./MBA is offered in partnership with the award-winning Darla Moore School of Business and allows students to concurrently achieve both degrees. Pharmacy students will be able to enroll in the Moore School's Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) program. As students complete pharmacy school, they can take advantage of the PMBA program’s course scheduling flexibility with evening classes, recorded lectures and distance education viewing sites throughout South Carolina and beyond.
UofSC pharmacy students who are interested in concurrently earning Pharm.D. and MBA degrees must formally apply for admission to the Darla Moore School of Business. In addition to completing the application, you’ll be required to take the GMAT or GRE as part of the admissions process.
Although the PMBA program has traditionally required a bachelor’s degree, the Moore School has agreed to accept Pharm.D. students who have completed the pre-pharmacy curriculum and the first two professional years of the Pharm.D. program. You are eligible to begin the PMBA program in the fall of your third professional year, or you can opt to begin the PMBA program in the spring semester. You should apply during the semester prior to your anticipated start date.
