Coretta Jenerette, PhD, RN, AOCN, CNE, FAAN is the new Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She comes to the University of South Carolina from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She earned her PhD and MSN in nursing from the University of South Carolina and BSN from Clemson University. She completed a certificate in nursing education at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a certified nurse educator. She also completed post-doctoral fellowships at both Yale University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Jenerette is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, Macy Faculty Scholar, standing member of the National Institute for Nursing Research NRRC study section and the treasurer for the International Association for Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates. She has served as a NIH Health Disparities Scholar and in the NIH Early Career Reviewer Program.
Dr. Jenerette’s internationally recognized program of research is aimed at enhancing self-care and family management in vulnerable populations such as individuals with sickle cell disease. She is dedicated to educating future nurse scientists about the role of social determinants of health (SDH) on health outcomes. As a Macy Faculty Scholar, Dr. Jenerette will focus on enhancing PhD programs with simulations that expose PhD students to the social determinants of health (SDH) and interprofessional education (IP/IPE).
