Professor Jamshidi's research interests focus on understanding performance behavior of highly-configurable systems (including deep neural networks, big data analytics, robotics systems) as well as solving computer system challenges (e.g., performance regressions, memory leak, energy consumption, parallelization) for distributed machine learning systems. Pooyan spent 7 years in the software industry before receiving his PhD.

  • Software Engineering: Highly-configurable software systems, software architectures, distributed systems
  • Autonomous Systems: Probabilistic modeling, reasoning, handling uncertainty, learning under uncertainty, dynamic reconfigurations
  • Machine Learning: Data-efficient machine learning, Gaussian processes, reinforcement learning, Bayesian optimization, deep probabilistic models
  • Computer Systems: Performance optimization, optimizing energy consumption, Fuzzy control, distributed machine learning systems
