Research Experience for Undergraduates

The Chemical Engineering program will host undergraduate students this upcoming summer in association with a newly awarded Research Experience for Undergraduates. The program is funded by the National Science Foundation and open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

Design of Nanomaterials for 21st-Century Energy

The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Carolina, in collaboration with Savannah River National Laboratory, is pleased to announce a Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates for 2025! Participants will perform research involving designing and synthesizing nanostructured materials for energy conversion and storage processes. Seminars, professional development workshops, field trips, and social events are planned throughout the summer. Research topics include:

  • CO2 capture and conversion
  • Li-based battery materials
  • Solid-state energy storage devices
  • Efficient ammonia synthesis
  • Lightweight load-bearing materials
  • Nuclear waste digestion
  • CO2 Reduction through Biomass Utilization

Students will work side-by-side with faculty and graduate students in a dynamic and cutting-edge research environment.

Applicants must be enrolled in a Chemical Engineering or related program and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3.
