What to Expect

Study Abroad Location:
London, United Kingdom

Program Dates:
05/08/2023-05/26/2023

Course Description:
In the USC classroom segment, before embarking on the foreign travel segment of this course, each student will formulate, in consultation with the course instructor, specific research questions to be addressed related to a comparison of criminal justice practices and processes in the U.S. and the United Kingdom (U.K.). During the foreign travel segment of the course, students will document their experiences using photographs, video footage, and written journal entries to support their responses to their research questions. The photographic, video, and journal materials will be placed in an electronically created portfolio which will be submitted as a major component of the academic requirements of the course. Upon return from the foreign travel segment of the course, students will be called upon to reflect individually on their research questions and on their research findings regarding their specific questions. In the final week of the course, after return to the online learning from the foreign travel segment, each student will be required to submit a brief presentation on their overall experience, to include addressing whether there are practices within the U.S. criminal justice system they would propose changing based on their travel experiences and whether there are facets of the U.K. criminal justice.
