Getting involved with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students helped me realize there was more to life than money and jobs. My post-graduate plans are to help as many people as possible change their life as a missionary.

Career plans: Starting this fall, I will be working as a full-time missionary with an organization called FOCUS (the Fellowship of Catholic University Students). This summer, I will be assigned to a college campus in the U.S. where I will live and work with other FOCUS missionaries. As a missionary, I will be mentoring students, leading bible studies and planning social events. I plan to serve as a missionary for at least 2 years.

UofSC Story: Coming into UofSC, I thought I had a hold on life. Big scholarship, excelling academically and socially, involved in multiple clubs, big man on campus really. That was until I was invited to go to a national conference with the local church I had gotten involved with. We drove 9 hours all the way to Indianapolis for what I thought was going to be a mediocre church retreat. Much to my surprise, there were over 10,000 other catholic college students there. It was there, surrounded by thousands of other normal faithful people my age that I realized that there was something more to life.

Most impactful experience: One of the most impactful and transformative experiences was my study abroad trip to Peru. During my senior year, I traveled to Peru for two weeks and it was one of the best experiences of my life.  I saw amazing wonders such as Machu Picchu and Lake Titicaca and found serenity throughout my trip. I was able to broaden my worldview and experience ways of living I never knew I could. I became more confident in myself and my abilities and formed meaningful relationships with my fellow travelers.

Best part of the Top Scholars program: Not having to worry about tuition or student loans
