About this Fellowship
The oldest and most celebrated international fellowship award in the world, which enables students to study for two years at Oxford University. Each year 32 Americans are chosen for their outstanding scholarly achievements, as well as their character, commitment to others and to the common good, and for their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.
Candidates are selected based upon the criteria established with the first class of Rhodes Scholars in 1902:
Literary and scholastic attainments (academic excellence).
Energy to use one's talents to the full (as demonstrated by mastery in areas such as sports, music, debate, dance, theatre, and artistic pursuits, particularly where teamwork is involved).
Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship.
Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.
Candidates must be nominated by the USC committee. Interested students should be in touch with NFSP during their junior year for guidance and planning. Entry into the campus competition ideally begins in early April.
