The Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) fellowship provides support for research for anyone who identifies as a woman conducting scientific research at any institution in the United States or abroad. Applications may be of various career levels, from graduate students to assistant professors.
Applicants may be in the natural or social sciences as long as their research employs the scientific method and is hypothesis-driven.
The GWIS fellowship supports research-related expenses (equipment, travel for fieldwork, compensation for study subjects, etc.) for a period of up to 12 months. It may not be used for tuition or living expenses.
Applicants must be members of GWIS and be able to demonstrate financial need for research funding.

Awarded for full-time study or research in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported. Master’s/First Professional Fellowships awards are $18,000. Doctoral Fellowship awards are $20,000. Postdoctoral Fellowship awards are $30,000.
