About this Fellowship

Center fellowships are provided for Master's or PhD degree study at the University of Hawai‘i and participation in the Center's international and intercultural programs.

The East-West Center is unique among international institutions in its focus on community building at the campus level as a stepping-stone to community building in the Asia Pacific region. While at the Center, participants learn, work and live together, and extend helping hands to the local community. From weekly seminars to dormitory living and shared kitchens with students from diverse cultures to participation in student-organized activities, the East-West Center offers its student participants a rich blend of academic and cultural experience.

Since it was established in 1960 by the U.S. Congress, the East-West Center has supported more than 6,000 students from Asia, the Pacific, and the United States. Center scholarships are given for degree study and participation in the Center's unique international and intercultural programs. East-West Center alumni are found in prominent positions in universities, governments, and businesses, constituting an active network devoted to regional cooperation and community building.
