Free hotspots are being offered to public locations and some businesses for a limited time. 

Please note:

  • Services are being offered to new households currently without internet services
  • Services are dependent on whether the provider can service the specific area
  • Most mobile plans have data provisions; students, faculty and staff can explore what their current service plan provides; T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T, and Comcast are lifting their unlimited data caps for mobile subscribers

 

Internet Services for Students

Spectrum is offering two free months of internet and WIFI services to new customers in households with Pre-K to 12 or college students who need remote education. This discount will be applied as a credit for your first two months of internet services. They will waive any installation or pre-payment fees to help get you started. You can qualify for this service if you:

  • Have a student of qualifying age at your service address with remote education needs
  • Have not subscribed to our internet services within the past 30 days

Internet Essentials Free to New Customers: It’s even easier for low-income families who live in a Comcast service area to sign-up for Internet Essentials, the nation’s largest and most comprehensive broadband adoption program. New customers will receive 60 days of complimentary Internet Essentials service, which is normally available to all qualified low-income households for $9.95/month. Additionally, for all new and existing Internet Essentials customers, the speed of the program’s Internet service was increased to 25 Mbps downstream and 3 Mbps upstream. That increase will go into effect for no additional fee and it will become the new base speed for the program going forward.

Suddenlink is offering free Altice Advantage Internet, where available, for 60 days to any household that has a student from K-12 and/or college. The service is for students who are displaced due to school closures and do not have internet access at home. After the free 60 days, those affected can choose to either cancel the service or keep it as a regular paying customer. You can contact Suddenlink at (888) 633-0030 to sign up.

Altice internet providers Suddenlink and Optimum are offering 60 days of free internet service for households with K–12 or college students. Internet speeds are up to 30 Mbps if you do not already have access to a home internet plan. To sign up, call 1-866-200-9522 if you live in an area with Optimum internet service, or call 1-888-633-0030 if you live in an area with Suddenlink internet service.
