Scholarships and Support

The Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center offers financial support and scholarships for pharmacy students to expand their educational training and professional development beyond the traditional Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum.

About

The Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center awards academic scholarships and travel stipends to pharmacy students in good academic standing at the University of South Carolina. 

The highest priority is given to requests that focus on the below list of criteria, however, students are encouraged to submit requests that align with the KPIC mission but may not fall neatly into this priority list:

  • Promote new career and business opportunities for pharmacy students and pharmacists
  • Develop entrepreneurship skills and opportunities among students
  • Provide students with unique exposure to successful pharmacy business and practice leaders

Awards totaling up to $3,750 per academic term will be provided to selected applicants.

Academic Scholarship

Examples of activities that may be eligible for support as a scholarship application: 

  • Professional Compounding Center of America (PCCA) Training courses (on-campus/online)
  • National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Ownership Workshop (on-campus)
  • Dual degree programs (provided through the University of South Carolina)
  • Certificate training programs (on-campus/online; ie no travel expenses required)

Note: This is not a complete list as other activities may be submitted for review and possible support.
 

Travel Stipend

Examples of activities that may be eligible for support as a travel stipend application: 

  • Professional Compounding Center of America (PCCA) Training courses (off campus)
  • National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Ownership Workshop (off campus)
  • Certificate training programs (off-campus)
  • Travel expenses to select rotation sites approved by the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center as eligible for financial support.

Note: This is not a complete list as other activities may be submitted for review and possible support.
 

The following are not eligible for funding: 

  • Pharm.D. tuition
  • Travel to attend a trade association (e.g. APhA or ASHP convention) meeting without clear explanation of how the event will aid in accomplishing training that meets KPIC goals.

To be eligible to apply for KPIC scholarships or support, the following requirements must be met: 

  1. Current Pharm.D. student at the USC College of Pharmacy
  2. In good academic standing and not on conduct probation or facing other disciplinary actions due to violation of  USC COP Professionalism Policy

General Dates and Deadlines

  • End of June: Deadline to apply for KPIC academic scholarships for the upcoming academic year.
  • Mid-August: Deadline to apply for off-campus travel stipends for the fall semester.
  • Mid-February: Deadline to apply for off campus travel stipends for the spring and summer semesters.

The following must be submitted with an application for KPIC scholarships or support:

  1. A summary report or assessment of you career interests and how you feel this activity would be beneficial for you within this career path. Indicate opportunities for interdisciplinary and/or interprofessional collaboration with this activity. Indicate which KPIC priority criteria you feel this initiative will meet, and provide a statement to support this claim if not already included in your summary report. (List all that apply)
    • Promotes new career and business opportunities for pharmacy students
    • Promotes entrepreneurship among students
    • Provides students experiences with successful pharmacy business and practice leaders
  2. An estimated cost or budget for this activity. Provide as much detail as available. If this will be a multi-semester event, then provide a budget for the term in which you are applying as well as a total estimated budget for the complete event.
     
  3. A letter of recommendation may be required from a faculty or professional mentor. You will be notified by the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center if this will be needed for your application.
