New faculty member joins College of Pharmacy

The USC College of Pharmacy is pleased to welcome Raeann Carrier, Ph.D. as a clinical associate professor in the Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences department. Carrier earned her undergraduate degree in biology from Wheeling Jesuit University, Wheeling, West Virginia and her Ph.D. from Ohio State University, College of Pharmacy in Columbus, Ohio.

Carrier previously served as an associate professor and director of the Office of National Boards and Exam Center at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a fellow of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics Academy of Pharmacology Educators.

We asked Carrier to share a bit more about herself as she and her family settle into life in South Carolina.

Tell us a bit about yourself:

RC: My husband, PK, who works at the USC School of Medicine Columbia, and I are parents to our almost-4-year-old son, Bo.  We live with our loud, but loving, beagle, Penny.  We have recently moved to SC after living for almost 10 years in a very small town in southern West Virginia.  We are loving it here, and we are looking forward to fully embracing the South Carolina life!

What will you be doing as a faculty member?

RC: I will be teaching pathophysiology and pharmacology content and helping out where I can.

How do you spend your time outside of work?

RC: I like to bake, read, and watch QVC shopping. Who doesn't love a great value from the comfort of their couch?

What are you currently reading, watching or listening to?

RC: Our son likes to read as well, and I am pretty sure I spend most of my free time reading to him! We're really into the construction vehicle and train genres right now, but if I do have time, I like a good mystery, like the Sue Grafton Alphabet series or Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache series.

What is your advice for current students / future pharmacy professionals?

RC: Stay focused but have fun! This moment is just one stop on your trip. It's not the entire ride.
