What's your favorite thing about Columbia?
My favorite thing about Columbia has to be the sheer number of things to do; from Soda City to concerts, there is always something buzzing in our city!
What are your hobbies or things you like to do?
My favorite hobbies and things to do definitely include cooking, baking, working out, and spending time with friends. I love experimenting with Instagram recipes. I used to be a competitive swimmer, so I've traded that for weightlifting, and it has quickly become an addiction. Exploring everything Columbia has to offer with friends has made some of my favorite memories!
What has surprised you the most about Nursing school?
Personally, the most surprising part of nursing school is the amount of studying required; everyone warns you about this, but it really is true. You have to start studying for exams as soon as you learn the material in order to be able to retain it and apply it well. No more cramming!
What is an accomplishment in college that you are very proud of?
I'm proud of how involved I was able to get my freshman year. My first semester of freshman year, I took 21 hours, marched with the Carolina Band, got super involved in my faith through the Catholic church on campus, picked up a minor, and kept my 4.0. Was it difficult? Absolutely! But I grew as a person and saw what I was capable of; the success there has encouraged me to constantly push myself.
Why did you choose USC?
I chose USC because I could tell they really cared about their students. From the amount of student organizations and opportunities, the consistency of campus events, the dedication of teachers, and the sheer amount of scholarship opportunities, I knew USC truly cared about the success of their students. The amount of flowers on campus also earned USC a few points ;)
What advice would you give incoming students?
I would tell incoming students to join something familiar that they know will be a source of joy. For me, that was the Carolina Band. I have been in band since 5th grade, so joining the collegiate band allowed me to have something familiar, especially as an out of state student. I knew band had been a source of joy for me in the past so deciding to continue with that allowed me to quickly make some of my closest friends and have something consistent and familiar. Yes, college is a new beginning but don't try and change everything at once! Do things you know make you happy- maybe that's church, or the gym, or a certain club, cling to that!
