Alejandra Vega Roque

 Alejandra Vega Roque is a clarinetist from Puerto Rico currently based in Columbia, SC.  She holds a Master of Music degree from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico. She studied with Professors Joseph Eller and Kathleen Jones. During her undergraduate degree, Vega served as the Assistant Principal Clarinet with the Banda Municipal de Caguas. She has also performed with the Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra and Orquesta Camerata Filarmónica de Puerto Rico. Upon graduation, Vega was awarded the esteemed Premio Roberto I. Ferdman grant, which supports talented young Puerto Rican musicians to pursue graduate studies.

As a Master’s student at the University of South Carolina, she served as the graduate assistant for “Spark: Music Leadership at Carolina,” a leadership program that offers supplementary resources for music students to pursue and develop leadership roles. In 2023, Ms. Vega was invited by Pro Arte Musical (Puerto Rico) to perform a solo recital at the Pablo Casals Symphony Hall as part of the concert series “Serie de Nuevos Virtuosos.” During her time in South Carolina, she has played with the Aiken Symphony Orchestra and Long Bay Symphony. In 2023 and 2024, Vega entered the Varna International Music Festival with fellowships.

Vega was a founding member and secretary for “Fuller Forests,” a non-profit organization focused on the restoration of forests through commissions, recordings, and performances of new music. Currently, Vega serves as the Assistant Director of "Spark: Music Leadership at Carolina" at the University of South Carolina. Additionally, she has been selected for a 2024 Fall internship with the International Clarinet Association.
