The initiative provides piano instruction and music experiences for people with autism, ADD/ADHD, developmental delays, down syndrome, hearing and visual impairments and PPD-NOS. Every semester includes a public recital for the students.
The Carolina LifeSong Initiative created "Piano Teaching and Special Needs," a special topics course to promote teacher training for advanced graduate students pursuing degrees in piano pedagogy.
Special workshops for piano teachers have been presented at the national and international
conventions of the Music Teachers National Association, National Conference on Keyboard
Pedagogy, Music Teachers National Association, Canadian Federation of Music Teachers
and the Royal Conservatory of Music Collaborative Conference in Toronto.
