Spotlight on Kirk Randazzo

Since 2010 Kirk Randazzo '94 has been the Voice of the Carolina Band. In addition to being a band alumnus, he's the chair of the political science department at Univeristy of South Carolina. A true mentor for many, Kirk shared thoughts about his band experiences from the past and present. 

Student Spotlight: Charlotte Downs

Charlotte Downs is a music industry studies undergrad at the University of South Carolina School of Music. She auditioned at numerous universities, but South Carolina felt like home to her. Recently the Downs' family graciously donated a 400+ piece collection of KISS memorabilia to the University of South Carolina.

Spotlight on Dr. Jay Jacobs

Dr. Jay Jacobs has led the Mighty Sound of the Southeast since 2019. Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, Dr. Jacobs is Associate Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music at the University of South Carolina, where he is the director of The Carolina Band, conducts the Symphonic Winds and teaches courses within the School of Music.

Remembering Frankie Goodman

Frankie was a loving spirit. Faithful, kind, and selfless, she was a driving force behind the efforts to create the Center for Southern African-American Music (CSAM) in the School of Music in 2004 and served as an administrative assistant for the Center for a few years before her retirement.
