Why did you choose the USC School of Music?
When I visited USC, it became apparent the faculty would invest in my success. They tailored the program to fit my situation and made sure I had everything needed to reach my goals. Pursuing a DMA after 20 years in the classroom was a non-traditional approach and I am very grateful for the unwavering support I received at USC.

My conducting lessons with Dr. Moody changed the course of my career. Every day and every class offered something challenging and stimulating.
What advice would you give current students or recent graduates pursuing a music performance or music education career?
Find a place like I did at USC! Look for professors who will meet you where you are, who will listen and invest in your goals and who will be advocates even after you’ve matriculated from the institution.
What is one of your proudest professional or personal accomplishments that occurred after graduating from the School of Music in which your education played a role?
I’ve recently been inducted into the Tennessee Bandmasters Hall of Fame and the Music for All Hall of Fame. Neither of these honors would have been possible without the knowledge and confidence I gained at USC.
Do you have any recent career changes, accomplishments, awards, major life events, etc. you would like to share?
In addition to the honors I mentioned above, I am currently a Board Member of the Tennessee Music Education Association. I serve as a Chief Judge for Bands of America, Director Track Leader at Music for All Summer Symposium and on the Judge Administration Team for Drum Corps International.
