Two Columbia staples, Brittons of Columbia and The Carolina Band, will be joining forces to fundraise for The Mighty Sound of the Southeast leading up to the Spring Game on April 15.
Brittons has been a staple in Columbia since 1947. They offer custom-made clothing, formal wear rentals, personalized gift wrapping and wardrobe consulting. Brittons has a collection of both Gamecock themed apparel and boutique clothing.
University of South Carolina alumna Carey Brewer has been shopping at Brittons for decades. She graduated from USC in 1969 with a degree in business. Brewer’s family is good friends with the owners of Brittons, Perry Lancaster and Stacy ‘83 Levinson. Brewer has been giving back to The Carolina Band for years and created a scholarship for band students. She believes the School of Music is home to the most talented people - including the students, faculty and staff.
Brewer approached Perry and Stacy with the idea that the Brittons might partner with The Carolina Band. They loved the idea and created the Brittons Bands Together fundraiser. During April 10-15, Brittons customers will be rewarded with various giveaways depending on the size of their donation.
“My hope is that the partnership will raise money for scholarships and get more people involved with the Band,” said Brewer. “I also hope people will learn more about Brittons and their fabulous collection of both Gamecock-themed apparel and boutique clothing.”
Stacy Levinson's father, Arnold Levinson, opened Brittons in Columbia in 1947. Soon after he donated his first USC student scholarship.
“Seventy years later, I, a USC alumna, my husband, Perry, and our team at Brittons are very proud to continue my father's legacy and support of USC,” said Levinson. “We are a proud sponsor of the USC football Call-In Show with Coach Shane Beamer. We are honored to dress many coaches and fans of the Gamecock Nation!”
Levinson is a big fan of the Carolina band and is very excited about the partnership.
The showmanship is spectacular! No matter what the outcome of the game is, the band is always a winner.

Brittons understands the impact and power music has on uniting the community. “We love supporting hard-working students at the University of South Carolina,” Levinson said.
Even though Brewer wasn’t in the band, she still feels like a part of The Mighty Sound of the Southeast every game day.
“I love marching in with the band. It's so great to see how people gravitate to and support the members of the Band. I can't imagine a gameday without the Carolina Band. Without it, life would be silent,” said Brewer.
On April 15, there will be photos of the band over the decades, a special appearance, band members, swag, and other surprises.
Director of the Carolina Band, Dr. Jay Jacobs, is very excited about the partnership with Brittons.
“With the help of business sponsors, we can offer the best possible experience to more students each year,” said Jacobs.
The Carolina Band is fortunate to have Brittons hosting this event and supporting the band members who give so much to the university and community. We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Brittons.
