Spark and SAVVY go to NYC

Chamber Music America pre-conference workshop hosted by the University of South Carolina School of Music’s Spark Music Leadership Laboratory and its award-winning SAVVY Musician in Action

The 2016 Chamber Music America pre-conference workshop will be hosted by the SAVVY Musician in Action. Taking place January 7, 2016 in the Westin New York at Times Square, Marketing Chamber Music: A SAVVY Strategy for Success tackles the top challenge facing many artists and presenters: building the audience they desire and deserve.

Arts entrepreneurship guru and Director of Music Entrepreneurship in the University of South Carolina School of Music David Cutler and a team of Thought Leaders from The SAVVY Musician in Action explore an innovative, powerhouse approach called The Arts Marketing A-List. This uncommon, interactive workshop provides participants with practical tools and techniques that can be directly implemented into various types of businesses or careers. Workshop Thought Leaders include: Nancy Christensen of Christensen Arts, Gavin Chuck of Alarm Will Sound, world traveling pianist and entrepreneur Kimball Gallagher, Lance LaDuke of Music Practice Coach, Arts Journal blog on the Future of Classical Music Greg Sandow, and iCadenza’s Jennifer Rosenfeld and Julia Torgovitskaya.

Following the workshop, the SAVVY Chamber Showcase takes place at (le) poisson rouge. This concert features past prizewinners in the only national chamber music competition that evaluates both artistic excellence and innovative event design, held annually in the School of Music at the University of South Carolina.  The event showcases four groups at the forefront of a wave of ensembles that recast the classical concert experience. Elements of film, video design, theater, dance, literature and humor are woven together with new music and inventive arrangements of older works to create powerful shows that appeal to the ears, eyes, emotions and intellect.

Featured ensembles (prizewinners from 2013-2015) include: CreArtBox, a multidisciplinary performing arts group based in New York and Madrid; the Fourth Wall, a hybrid arts trio based in Boston; the Xuan/Ferry Duo, a percussion and video design duo based in Chicago; and C Street Brass, a theatrical brass quintet based in Pittsburgh performing with guest pianist David Cutler.
