World renowned string quartet returns for concerts, coachings and outreach
“They propel the music irresistibly but with extraordinary grace and flexibility and above all, they make sense of the music.” – Washington Post
Now in its third year as the University of South Carolina’s Quartet-in-Residence,
the Parker Quartet is becoming a staple for fortunate Columbia audiences and USC students
of chamber music. The world-renowned string quartet returns to USC for a week of public
concerts, master classes and community outreach November 9–15.
The Parker Quartet gets frequent accolades by music critics. The Washington Post described
them as having “exceptional virtuosity and imaginative interpretation.” The Boston
Globe applauds their “fiercely committed performances” and says they are “intense,
virtuosic, utterly assured.” The New York Times called them simply “something extraordinary.”
The Grammy Award-winning quartet began touring on the international circuit after
winning the Concert Artists Guild Competition and the Grand Prix and Mozart Prize
at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in France. Chamber Music
America awarded the quartet the prestigious biennial Cleveland Quartet Award for three
consecutive seasons, and supports USC’s Residency Partnership Program with its Chamber
Music America Endowment Fund.
A grant from the provost office brought them to USC for the first residency year and
subsequent years have been supported with donations, including an anonymous $100,000
challenge gift to create a permanent endowment for the string quartet residency.
