The Fourth Wall chamber residency is Sept. 9-12
The Fourth Wall, winner of 2014 SAVVY Chamber Music Competition, is back in Columbia for their 2015 residency at the School of Music September 9–12. The ensemble delights and inspires audiences across the country with their unique brand of hybrid arts performance in which musicians are also dancers and actors. Together since 2010, flutist Hilary Abigana, bass trombonist C. Neil Parsons, and percussionist Greg Jukes, commission new works and reinterpret established repertoire to make music that can literary leap off the stage.
As a strong advocate of education, The Fourth Wall conducts workshops that teach students how to incorporate interdisciplinary performance techniques into their performances. Teaming up with Richland School District One, The Fourth Wall will perform at W.A. Perry Middle School, connecting music to the new STREAM educational standards.
In addition to the USC residency, The Fourth Wall will perform at the national Chamber Music America pre-conference showcase in New York City this winter alongside C Street Brass and Peter Ferry & Xuan, 2013 and 2015 competition winners. SAVVY Chamber Competition winners are national ensembles that have been chosen for artistic excellence and innovative event design.
A free public concert takes place Fri., Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of South Carolina School of Music Recital Hall (813 Assembly St).
