South Carolina Honors College Employee Golf Cart Policy
Purpose: This policy outlines the guidelines and expectations for employees operating the South Carolina Honors College (SCHC) golf cart. It aims to ensure the safety of employees and visitors while promoting responsible usage of the golf cart.
- Only employees or student workers of the SCHC are permitted to operate the golf cart. All other users must be approved by the Dean.
- Employees or student workers must possess a valid driver's license to operate the golf cart on public streets. A driver’s license is not needed when operating off the public street.
- All operators must adhere to posted speed limits and traffic signs.
- Avoid distractions while operating the golf cart, such as texting or using mobile devices.
- Golf carts should not be overloaded. A maximum of two people can ride on the cart. All people should be seated within the front row. NO riders in the back cargo section.
- Employees should report any malfunctions, damage or safety concerns regarding the golf cart immediately to the Director of Information Technology.
- Reckless driving, speeding or performing stunts is prohibited.
- Operating the golf cart under the influence of alcohol or drugs is forbidden.
- Golf carts should not be used for personal errands or joyriding during work hours.
- Park the golf cart in designated areas when not in use.
- Ensure that the golf cart does not obstruct pedestrian pathways, emergency exits or other vehicles.
- In the event of an accident, employees must report it to their supervisor and the Director of Information Technology immediately, regardless of the severity.
- Failure to comply with this policy may result in restrictions from using the golf cart or disciplinary action.
- The following steps should be taken to reserve the golf cart:
- Complete the online reservation form found above. Employees will receive an approval email after the request has been reviewed. All reservations should be placed at least three business days prior to use.
- Pick up keys from Harper 120.
- Return the golf cart at the approved time and ensure it is parked in the designated space.
- All employees authorized to operate the golf cart must sign an acknowledgment form indicating they have read, understood, and agree to this policy.
- This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure its effectiveness and relevance. Updates will be communicated to all employees, as necessary.
Employees are expected to prioritize safety and responsible behavior when operating golf carts. By following these guidelines, we can create a secure environment for everyone on our premises.
