Office of the Vice President for Research

Office of Research honors faculty members for supporting the UofSC research community

The Office of the Vice President for Research offers a robust slate of internal programs for researchers at every level throughout the UofSC System, but we cannot do that alone. To keep our programs vital and successful, we rely on the participation of faculty members to serve on review committees and mentor student researchers, and UofSC’s wonderful faculty always comes through. These faculty members generously give of their time and expertise to ensure programs offered by the Office of the Vice President for Research, and units like the Office of Undergraduate Research, remain strong and effective year after year.

To recognize the efforts of these outstanding research-community supporters, the Office of the Vice President for Research is proud to honor some of our most dedicated faculty supporters with two 2021 research awards.

  • Distinguished Research Service Award recipients have demonstrated exceptional commitment to UofSC’s research community through consistent service as reviewers and committee members for our internal funding and awards programs.
  • Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentor Awardees have dedicated extensive time and energy to guiding undergraduate students through the research process, from developing a new project to teaching research methods and skills to providing the support needed for the student to see their project through.

UofSC Vice President for Research Prakash Nagarkatti offered this appreciation for the 2021 award recipients: “Last year, my staff assessed the impact of our internal research funding programs, and what they found was remarkable. As we shared in the Research Impact Assessment report, ten years of internal research investments have resulted in an impressive return. As illuminating as that assessment is, it cannot tell the whole story of what makes these programs so successful. That story involves the contributions of so many dedicated faculty members who devote hours of their time each year to support our research programs. My staff and I could not manage without these contributions, and we deeply appreciate all of the time and attention our faculty spend supporting their students and colleagues by participating in these programs as reviewers and mentors. Thank you, 2021 Distinguished Research Service Award recipients and Distinguished Undergraduate Research Mentors, for all that you do to serve our research community. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.”
