Adventures in Forensic Science

You have seen criminal investigation shows, now try your hand at sleuthing the elements of a crime scene by working with real-life crime scene investigators and law enforcement officers to help discover the truth!

Through hands-on opportunities and demonstrations, you will learn about latent fingerprints, bloodstain pattern interpretation, footwear impressions, crime scene diagrams, and the collection of trace and DNA evidence. End your adventure by working on a team to investigate a mock crime scene and present the facts of your case!

Meet Your Instructors

 

Kerri McClary

Kerri received her Bachelor of Arts degree in criminal justice from Central State University in Oklahoma.  Her law enforcement career spans over 30 years; beginning as an Identification Technician with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and culminating as a Special Agent with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.  She is currently an Investigator at the Richland County Sheriff's Department. She is also an adjunct faculty member in the extensive 10-week National Forensic Academy Training Program located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.  

Kerri has an extensive background as a latent print examiner, crime scene investigator and forensic photographer. She has received additional educational training and experience in forensic photography and digital imaging from the F.B.I. Academy in Quantico, Virginia. She is a certified crime scene analyst through the International Association for Identification.

Kristen Polis

Inv. Kristen Polis has been with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department since 2002. Kristen worked as a Crime Scene Investigator for eleven years and is currently a Latent Print Examiner. She graduated from Charleston Southern University with degrees in Criminal Justice and Psychology and earned a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. Kristen is a certified crime scene investigator through the International Association for Identification.
