Background

C.E. "Gene" Reeder, Ph.D., distinguished professor emeritus at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, retired from his alma mater in 2023 as director of Outcomes Research. He played a key role in advancing the Kennedy Pharmacy Innovation Center's efforts to analyze and validate the impact of pharmacists in emerging clinical roles. Additionally, he helped strengthen the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Outcomes Sciences’ research and graduate programs, significantly contributing to the college’s growth and reputation.

Dr. Reeder’s research focused on the economic evaluation of pharmaceuticals and medical interventions, drug benefit design, formulary management, and health care public policy. His career included consulting for pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, and health plans, in addition to practicing as a community pharmacist and nursing home consultant in South Carolina.

Throughout his career, Dr. Reeder received numerous honors, including the Distinguished Alumni of the Year award from the USC College of Pharmacy in 2015, the South Carolina Pharmacy Association Bowl of Hygeia in 2014, and the Steven G. Avey award from the Foundation for Managed Care Pharmacy in 2011. He also served as Faculty Senate Chair at USC from 2005 to 2007.

Dr. Reeder’s impactful work has greatly advanced the fields of pharmaceutical economics and health care policy, leaving a profound legacy at the University of South Carolina and within the broader pharmacy community.
