The Palmetto Experiential Education Partnership is recognizing its 2024 recipients of the PEEP Awards for their dedication and excellence as outstanding preceptors.
PEEP is a collaborative experiential education program between the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy and the Medical University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy, a partnership that capitalizes on each college’s strong network of alumni preceptor who provide experiential opportunities for students.
The program aims to provide students with the structured environment needed to develop professional judgment, technical skills, and practice skills. Preceptors encourage critical thinking to solve problems, facilitating a student’s knowledge base, as well as the ability to provide excellence in patient care.
Jennifer Baker, Pharm.D., director of experiential programs for the USC College of Pharmacy noted that pharmacists pledge to prepare the next generation of pharmacists.
“We are so grateful for all of our preceptors who embody this principle to ensure the future of our profession is prepared both professionally and personally to navigate the challenges facing our health care system and communities.”
Elizabeth Weed, Pharm.D., director of experiential education at MUSC, noted that PEEP preceptors are indispensable mentors, guiding students through the complexities of real-world health care, and providing invaluable hands-on experience that bridges the gap between academic knowledge and clinical practice.
“Their dedication and expertise not only help shape a successful future for our students but also enhance patient care and advance the entire field of health care. We are honored to have so many amazing preceptors working with us. Congratulations to this year's award winners,” she says.”
Those selected for PEEP Awards are chosen based on student nominations and the Accreditation
Council for Pharmacy Education 2016 Standards for preceptors and journal articles
that identify role-modeling behaviors, attitude, facilitating behaviors, and teaching/coaching
behaviors in both Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations in a variety of settings.
